My youngest son is very bright, but was not socially well-suited for preschool, and with a birthday that missed the Kindergarten cut-off by less than a week, he spent more time than usual with me at home before finally going to school.
I confess, those days were a challenge for me with Eli at home – he is the kind of child who always needs something to keep him intellectually occupied. How I wish I would have known about Brainzy when he was younger!
Brainzy is an online math and reading program from Education.com for kids ages 3-7. With material geared towards pre-school, Kinder, and 1st grade, Brainzy uses an engaging mix of fun characters, clever songs, and challenging games to teach basic to advanced concepts.
Though Eli is now 7 and in 1st grade, I had him give Brainzy a whirl. He thought it was very entertaining, and it gave him a lot of confidence as he practiced reading curriculum he had already learned in school. Some of the math concepts were newer to him, though, like greater and less than with numbers, measurement and distance, and geometry.
Here’s an example of a video shown before a game on Brainzy:

Eli is my only child at home who will use Brainzy, but I love that the site allows you to set up three different profiles on one subscription. That way, if you have more than one child who wants to use the site, you can set them up at their different levels, and Brainzy will track their progress to let you know how they are each doing with different games and concepts. Brainzy also adds new content all the time, so there are always new challenges to explore, and it can be used on any device running Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or IE 10+.
