For many of us, the end of another year is a time to mentally rewind the past 12 months so we can review the highlights – the challenges, the triumphs, the great memories, and moments that required perseverance.
As I think over 2014, there was one period of time – one incredibly special occasion packed with dozens of happy memories – that helped me realize that I truly am an Unstoppable Mom: my daughter’s wedding in April.
My daughter and her husband go to college in another state, and were literally only available to drive in for a handful of days, get married, and drive right back home. With her limited time, limited resources, and geographical distance, that left pretty much all the planning and prep to me.
What’s ironic is that *I* never even planned my own wedding! My husband and I eloped more than 21 years ago and were married in jeans and t-shirts at Cupid’s Chapel of Love in Reno, Nevada. I knew absolutely nothing about planning a wedding.
But…I figured it out. I glanced through magazines, I pored over Pinterest boards. My daughter and I texted a lot, and many great friends stepped in to offer advice, time, and their actual services on the day of the reception. I fought through a lot of uncertainty, taught myself some new skills, took several shots in the dark, and in the end, was overwhelmed by the love and happiness of my family.
I learned two things from this experience about being an Unstoppable Mom:
Being “Unstoppable” doesn’t mean knowing it all –
but it does mean you’re willing to figure it out.
When you recognize a time you’ve been Unstoppable,
it gives you the confidence to do it again…and again…
