We were in a rare position this year to plan something fantastic for our summer vacation, but for weeks I wondered just what we should do. Then I got an invitation from Mom It Forward to attend the first-ever Family Forward Retreat, held at Universal Orlando Resort in August, and I jumped at the chance!
The event runs from Wednesday, August 21 – Saturday, August 24 (though we built an extra day in before and after for travel/recuperation). We will be staying at the amazing Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando, participating in fabulous workshops hosted by sponsors Cricut, Duck Tape, and National Geographic Kids, and enjoying all there is to offer at both Universal Studios and Island of Adventure at the Universal Orlando Resort.
Are we excited?
We’re actually splitting our family up a little to make this all work. My husband will be holding down the fort with our 5yo son back home, and I will be taking this fabulous vacation with our four older kids.
This will be our first time to Florida and to Universal Orlando. I thought I’d make a little video to share with you just what we’re each looking forward to the most. It’s a little silly, but then again, so are we!
*Note: my apologies in advance for “vertical video syndrome” – it was unavoidable in this particular case. And also, my oldest daughter Hannah was missing from this video, though she will be there for all the fun next week with us!
You can follow all the Family Forward fun on Twitter at @Family_Forward or #FamilyForward, and Facebook at /FamilyForward. I’m sure you’ll be seeing LOTS of pictures and updates on any (or all!) of those platforms in the coming week!
**Totally unnecessary non-disclosure disclosure: although we received an amazing package price at a steep discount, I paid out of pocket for this trip. All of the sponsors have provided a number of special amenities for attendees, including some meals, free wifi, tickets to Blue Man Group, and more, but while I am deeply grateful, I am under NO obligation to post and have not and will not receive any compensation for doing so. I plan to have a rip-roaring time and just wanted to share my extreme excitement with my readers!
