Missed a Spot

When my husband left for his regular out-of-town work week this morning, he told me “I’m sorry for the mess I left on the stove.”

See, last night as he was fixing us ham and potato soup for dinner, the pot boiled over and left this mucky mess (now hard-crusted) all over the burner:

I didn’t worry about it at the time because (a) I was grateful he was making dinner, (b) I knew that he was already irritated with himself, and (c) we were celebrating my son’s birthday, and I didn’t need to be distracted from that.

But while I absolutely appreciated my husband’s apology this morning, it also made me laugh. This past weekend was a busy one: son’s sleepover, Senior Prom, tons of birthday festivities, church, an important church-related appointment for my husband, daughter and I yesterday. While on Friday my house was totally clean, this morning it looks like this:

And that’s just the downstairs!!! And doesn’t even include ALL the areas of the downstairs (there’s also a bedroom, bathroom, laundry, and toy nook)!!!!

Again, I appreciate my husband’s concern over me having to clean up his mess on the stove, but honestly – it’s just one little drop in the bucket for me this week.

Please tell me I’m not the only one with a family who can destroy a living space in such a short amount of time!

  • Thank you!  This makes me feel like the mess my family and I (yes, even me) create is perfectly normal!  You’re a brave woman to share it, but I’m glad you did!

  • My family is like a tornado. It takes almost no time to go from clean to messy. Thanks for keeping it real!

I LOVE Mondays because it means everyone leaves and I can put the house back together. It doesn’t matter how clean we start the weekend on Friday, by Monday it looks like a bomb has gone off.

WE are down to one kid living with us, and it is AMAZING how much cleaner our house stays these days.

That being said, I SO remember those days!

Also, I am seriously jealous of all that counter room you have, even if it does have a schload of stuff on it.

You see mess, I see a wide, expanse of space.  Amazing when you look at things through a different lens.

    Happy Monday to you!

I honestly hate cleaning up the house because I know it’ll be messy in about 30 minutes. With four young boys – my house is destroyed in no time flat. There are rooms I don’t bother with on a weekly basis. More like a monthly basis. There is a bathroom the two older boys have to clean because my daughter and I refuse to use it. And boy do they ever have chores! LOL

Too funny!  My house looks like that every monday morning after the kids being home all weekend!!

Love it! It’s so true… one persons perception of a mess & the total picture. Thanks for sharing.
