Picture a Christmas

I decorated early this year, hoping to stave off the Christmas humbugs I worried would creep in after we realized we were (a) broke, (b) far from family, and (c) going to be contending with a 15 month old v. Christmas tree and decorations for a month.   I had wanted to participate in BooMama’s Christmas Tour of Homes, and I even posted the pretty button right there on my sidebar for, like, a month or more!  But, alas, the humbugs came (as I thought they would), and even with a decorated home, I didn’t much feel like showing off.

Well, all said and done now, and it was really a pleasant (if not stellar) Christmas this year, so before we pack it all up, I thought I would FINALLY share some of our home with you.

I collect nativities, and I think I have 17 or 18 by now.  Two more than that, actually, since my twin sister and my mother-in-law both sent me new nativities this year.  (THANK YOU)  Here’s my piano with a few of my favorite:

wide view - there are 7 here in all - I always put lights and poinsettias with these nativities

my very favorite - I love the postures and the bright colors

The sewn nativity panels above the piano really deserve close-ups.  This was a gift from my sister-in-law, Carley.  Every single year (without fail) I pull this out of the box and thank her out loud.  I LOVE IT.

There were very few places we could decorate this year, since we had to keep everything out of reach of the 15mo!  Here is the top of our entertainment center, which served as home to our little Christmas village and a few snowmen:

I didn’t take too many pictures on Christmas morning, but here are a few:

As per our marital contract (:0), my husband did the entire meal.  We had ham, sweet potatoes with a pecan/brown sugar/coconut crumble, sauteed zucchini and squash, and our friends brought over mashed potatoes and two fabulous salads.  My husband also made homemade bread and honey butter, pumpkin pie, peach custard pie, and a raspberry streusel tart.  He enjoys the whole process so much, and loves the outcome, and loves impressing with his skills, so he’s the holiday meal provider EVERY single year!  Works for me!

This Christmas may not have been everything I would have hoped for, but we are here together as a family, we are healthy and happy, and I’m so grateful to be facing the New Year with such blessings.
